Tough Love: Will Patriots Welcome Jack Jones With Open Arms After Gun Arrest?

New England Patriots management and players have been tight-lipped in the wake of cornerback Jack Jones' arrest on gun charges at Boston's Logan Aiport.

Jack Jones will be back with the New England Patriots when the team opens training camp July 25 in Foxboro. But will the recently arrested cornerback be welcomed with open arms?

New offensive coordinator Bill  O'Brien has declared that quarterback Mac Jones gets a "clean slate" from last season's disappointing performance, but Jack Jones will likely have to work harder for his second chance.

In the wake of Jack Jones' June 16 arrest for attempting to board a plane with two guns and a high-capacity feeder at Boston's Logan Airport, the Patriots have been eerily quiet on the subject. The team initially put out a statement, and reports soon thereafter surfaced that teammates were "livid" at his alleged actions.

But another Jones - cornerback Jonathan - says Jack will get the support he needs from inside New England's locker room.

“Support him and let whatever happens play itself out,” Jonathan Jones told ESPN recently.

Matthew Judon, team's lone Pro Bowl player from 2022, also tweeted for his defensive teammate to be considered innocent until proven guilty. Said Judon, "We help (hope) this turns out better for the kid."

Jack Jones' next court appearance in the case isn't until Aug. 18, and with no "criminal intent" he could get off with some type of probation. If found guilty on all nine counts, he could potentially face as much as 30 years in prison.

The Pats report for camp July 25, hold their first practice July 26 and play their first preseason game Aug. 10 against the Houston Texans.
