Despite not playing last Sunday night, New England Patriots fans all held their collective breath during the primetime game between the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants.

Late in the first half, former Patriots and current Bills running back Damien Harris went down on a tackle and couldn't get up. After several minutes, Harris was taken off the field in an ambulance, with a quick thumbs up to the crowd being one of the only encouraging signs. He was then taken to the hospital with what was revealed to be a neck injury.

Thankfully, Harris is now out of the hospital and seems to be recovering well. His injury was still very scary, though, which led to an outpouring of support across the NFL world. One showing of support that likely meant a lot to Harris was from his former quarterback in New England's Mac Jones, who checked in with his ex teammate via text.

"Yeah, I did see that. I texted him and it sounds like he's doing good," Jones told reporters on Wednesday. "So, Damien's definitely one of my good friends and he's a great football player and has played a lot of plays in this league and for us as a Patriot, so I have a lot of respect for him and his family and everybody."

A 2019 third-round pick out of Alabama, Harris spent the first four years of his career in New England and was relatively productive. In 38 games with the Patriots, Harris rushed for 2,094 yards and 20 touchdowns while averaging 4.7 yards per attempt.

With injuries and the rise of fellow running back Rhamondre Stevenson, Harris' role in the offense eventually diminished. New England elected not to bring him back this offseason, leading to him signing in Buffalo, where had some of his best performances for the Patriots. So far this season, Harris has 94 rushing yards and a touchdown as a depth running back.

Harris' Bills will take on the Patriots when the two teams meet at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, but it seems unlikely he will suit up against his former squad.
