Not So Super: Patriots Championship Odds After Free Agency Signings?
This offseason the New England Patriots have hired Bill O'Brien, signed receiving weapons JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mike Gesecki, and stockpiled even more draft picks.
While the Foxboro fan base maybe be buoyed by the flurry of moves, the oddsmakers aren't impressed.
In the wake of the top-tier free agents having signed, the Patriots' odds of winning Super Bowl XLVIII Feb. 11, 2024 in Las Vegas have grown even longer. At +5000 - meaning a $100 wager would net a bettor $5,000 - immediately after the Chiefs beat the Eagles in Super Bowl XLVII last month, the Pats have since dropped to +6000.
New England by far has the worst odds of any team in the AFC East. The Buffalo Bills are at +850, behind only Kansas City in the AFC. With rumors continue to swirl about the trade for four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, the New York Jets have skyrocketed from +4000 to +1400. And the Miami Dolphins, on the heels of trading for All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, have improved to +2500.
The most drastic recent moves have been by the Jets, the Rams (from +4000 to +6000) because of their jettisoning of veteran stars, the Chicago Bears (from +8000 to +5000) after they traded away the No. 1 overall pick to the Carolina Panthers, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (from +3500 to +6500) for going from Tom Brady to Baker Mayfield, and the Denver Broncos (from +4000 to +2500) for hiring Sean Payton.
