The story of legendary quarterback Tom Brady and the New England Patriots' two-decade dynasty will soon come to the small screen in the form of a new biopic, as reported by Deadline.

The limited series - fittingly titled The Patriot Way - will be an adaptation of the 2018 bestselling book 12: The Inside Story of Tom Brady's Fight for Redemption, written by Casey Sherman and David Wedge. Screenwriters Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson, who co-wrote the film The Fighter, centering around Boston-area boxer Micky Ward, will write the screenplay for the series. Meanwhile, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, known for producing films such as Maze Runner, will produce the show.

“The New England Patriots dominated the professional sports landscape for 20 years,” Tamasy and Johnson told Deadline. “Our series will bring the audience inside Gillette Stadium, better known as Fortress Foxboro, to shed new light on the thrilling, historic come-from-behind victories; the dark side of success; and building a culture of winning at all costs.”

While the series will of course cover the Patriots' success, it will also touch on some of the franchise's darker days. Some of the controversies covered in the series will include the Aaron Hernandez saga, as well as both Spygate and Deflategate. Additionally, the series will also look into the alleged rift between Brady and coach Bill Belichick.

“As journalists, we had a front-row seat for all the incredible drama that has unfolded both before and after the New England Patriots won their first super bowl [in 2001],” Sherman and Wedge said. “It’s a rich, character-driven story that probably will not be duplicated in our lifetime.”

Brady was previously the subject of another biopic series, being ESPN's Man In The Arena. Unlike that series, though, The Patriot Way will not seek any image rights to Brady or the Patriots, and the quarterback isn't involved in the series at all. The screenwriters explained that this approach would allow them "the freedom to tell the story without a filter.”

No release date has been announced as of yet.
