FOXBORO — The New England Patriots have taken the lead with time winding down in the second quarter of their Week 9 matchup with the Washington Commanders at Gillette Stadium — thanks to the legs of their top running back Rhamondre Stevenson.

After a 14-yard touchdown connection from quarterback Mac Jones and tight end Hunter Henry cut Washington’s lead to 10-7, the Pats needed only two plays to travel 84 yards for their second touchdown of the game.

While the drive began with an impressive 20-yard reception by receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster on a well-placed pass form Jones, Stevenson broke a missed tackle from Washington defender Jamin Davis for a 64-yard run to the end zone. The drive game New England a 14-10 lead with time continuing to tick away until the end of the half.

The Pats entered this matchup hoping to earn their third victory of the season, following their 31-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins last week. In kind, the Commanders are also hoping to rid themselves of their recent woes and a 38-31 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8.

Washington is one of 10 teams that New England is undefeated against at home at Gillette Stadium in regular season play with a 2-0 record. The Patriots had four straight wins against the Commanders heading into Week 9.

Despite a notable about of pregame hype to the contrary, receiver Kayshon Boutte was once again listed as inactive for this matchup — despite the injuries to receivers Kendrick Bourne and DeVante Parker. Conversely, second-year speedster Tyquan Thornton is playing against Washington. After battling both ankle and knee injuries throughout the week, starting left tackle Trent Brown did not suit up, leaving reserve tackle Conor McDermott to get the start in his stead.
