Jerry Tillery Provides Pass Rushing Depth for Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders play in a division with some of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, so their pass rush has to be at the top of its game to get after those players.
Unfortunately for the Silver and Black, their pass rush was not one of the better units in the NFL in 2022, as they recorded just 27 sacks, third-fewest in the league.
The team addressed this need for pass rush help through the 2023 NFL Draft with defensive linemanTyree Wilson, who can play off the edge or on the interior. They also brought back Jerry Tillery, who the team signed off waivers midway through last season.
Tillery showed improvement as a rotational player with the Raiders, as he posted 10 tackles and two quarterback hits. He also posted nine pressures and eight hurries.
Tillery played 203 snaps on the interior and 55 off the edge, according to Pro Football Focus. His versatility is something the Raiders can use as he carves out a role for himself as a depth piece on the defensive line.
The Raiders’ starters are set on the edge with Maxx Crosby and Chandler Jones, and Wilson will play all along the defensive line. Tillery will likely do the same, and his versatility gives the Raiders depth and options to rush the passer.
Jerry Tillery’s production in his new role with the Raiders can end up being the best thing for him and the team.
