The Las Vegas Raiders added a strong new piece to their secondary in safety Marcus Epps.

Epps spent three-plus seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles before he decided Las Vegas would be his next destination.

"Going into it, [I] wasn't really sure what was going to happen," Epps said in his introductory press conference with the Raiders on Thursday. "But you know, the Raiders, they made the biggest push for me, and you know, that meant a lot to me. And I'm really excited to be here.

"I'm really excited to play for this historic franchise. And you know, I just can't wait to get to work with the guys."

Epps said he and the coaching staff are still discussing his role in next season's defense.

"The biggest thing for me was they really wanted me here," Epps said. "They really believe in me as a player, as a person. And you know, that went a long way for me. So that was the biggest reason why I chose here."

Last season, Epps became a full-time starter on an Eagles squad that went to the Super Bowl.

The 27-year-old safety recorded a career-high 94 tackles and four for a loss. He also added six passes defensed and a forced fumble.

Epps also posted 13 tackles in the 2022 postseason.

"[I] learned a lot about consistency," Epps said. "Learned a lot about what it takes -- the day in and day out grind. You know, what it takes to take care of your body throughout the season. So you know, it was definitely a great learning experience for me and some things that I can take and continue to use to get better going forward."

The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo.

The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period began at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15. The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this season.
