Raiders Might Have a UDFA Steal in McClendon Curtis
The Las Vegas Raiders reportedly signed University of Tennessee-Chattanooga offensive lineman McClendon Curtis to a deal as an undrafted free agent, according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson.
Wilson reported that Curtis signed for $210,000 guaranteed, which is one of the highest guaranteed deals any undrafted free agent has signed so far. The Raiders clearly liked what they saw from him.
Curtis, who stands at 6-6 and weighs 328 pounds, was projected to be a fifth or sixth round pick by NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, so the Raiders getting him after the draft could end up being great value.
Curtis started 38 games in his six-year career with the Mocs and was named an FCS First-Team All-American. He was also a three-time First-Team All-Southern Conference.
Curtis has a wide frame and long arms, with the build to potentially play tackle at the next level. He played guard and tackle for the Mocs, but looked best at guard. He thrives as a pass blocker because of his size and arm length.
Some of the concerns with Curtis were his run blocking and questions about his tape against top teams, which might have been reasons why he was not selected during the draft.
The Raiders did not draft any offensive linemen, seemingly expected to run it back with the same corps they had last season. If McClendon Curtis plays well throughout the summer, he could have a shot at earning a spot on the 53-man roster.
