The Las Vegas Raiders confirmed on Thursday that they have signed their sixth-round pick from the 2023 NFL Draft, former Florida linebacker Amari Burney.

Burney was selected with the 203rd overall pick, which they received, along with the 104th overall pick, in a trade with the Houston Texans, to whom they dealt the 109th and 174th overall picks.

The prospect played five seasons for the Gators, having registered a total of 223 tackles, 15 for losses, 16 passes defensed, seven sacks, four fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles.

Last season, Burney recorded 79 tackles, nine for losses, six passes defensed, four sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recoveries. He played in all 13 games.

Burney was the SEC's only player to post four sacks and two interceptions.

"I can be very effective," Burney told the media after he was drafted. "I feel like when I'm in coverage, you don't have to double the man that I'm guarding, so you can use the safety to be a rat or something like that. But very effective; I had the best hands on Florida last year, which I keep saying -- my hands are great. I used to play receiver, so I don't drop too many interceptions."

Burney now joins his cousin, cornerback Brandon Facyson, as a member of the Raiders' defense, who returned to the club this offseason after being on the team in the 2021 season.
