Carson Wentz 'Thankful' For Los Angeles Rams Opportunity
The Los Angeles Rams struggled big time without quarterback Matthew Stafford since his injury vs. the Dallas Cowboys in October, scoring precisely six points in six quarters under Brett Rypien.
In response to that, the Rams elected to sign former Washington Commanders, Indianapolis Colts, and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Carson Wentz, who has been a free agent since February.
Now, after a rocky end to his time with each of those three franchises, Wentz is thankful to have another crack at extending his career.
"I’m thankful for that opportunity, and I’ll help in whatever way I can and I’m going to be ready. I don’t have to worry about next year, I don’t worry about the following years, I can just be where my feet are and have as much fun as I can and help as much as I can.”
To be fair, calling Wentz's experience over the last few seasons rocky is putting it lightly.
In the last three seasons alone, one of each coming with Philadelphia, Washington, and Indianapolis, Wentz threw 31 interceptions in 37 games, including 15 in 2020 with the Eagles.
As a result of each of those campaigns, the former No. 2 overall pick was sent packing, and looking back on that experience, he has accepted the outcome.
“I would say, the NFL has a way of humbling everybody. It’s a process," Wentz said. "But at the same time, I’m no dummy. I’ve seen it all. I know how this league works. And I know kind of how last year ended and I didn’t play well enough. I was aware of what it could be."
Still, being the competitor that he is, Wentz is anxious to prove that he still has a lot left to offer in the NFL.
And while he obviously wants to get onto the field to prove what he can do for the Rams as soon as he can, he is also just grateful to be given the chance, to begin with and will be patient until his time comes.
“We all desire to be the guy playing, don’t get me wrong,” Wentz said. “I think everyone would be lying to you if they said differently, but we all also know it’s hard business, it’s hard a league, and just to be on a team, to be around the guys, is a blessing regardless."
