Los Angeles Rams Coach Sean McVay Gives Update on Puka Nacua Injury
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua is battling a knee injury, and he was limited in practice as a result on Wednesday.
Is this injury something that could be prolonged, or was it simply cautionary? Head coach Sean McVay was asked on Wednesday if Nacua's limitation was "preventative," and he answered positively in that regard.
“It is, yeah," McVay said. "He's just banged up. You could see he was a little bit limited in terms of just some of his overall movement against Green Bay and just the style at which he plays. I'll be interested to see if he's ever truly back full speed, not full speed, but feeling like you don't have to be cognizant of taking care of him to get him to game day feeling as good as possible. So that's kind of the thought process there.”
Nacua is a rookie who has taken the NFL by storm in 2023, filling in nicely for a then-injured Cooper Kupp in the early portions of the season.
So far this year, he has hauled in 64 catches for 827 yards and two scores, a bright spot on a Rams team that has struggled with a 3-6 record through nine games. His 64 catches is already a franchise record for a rookie in a single season, breaking Kupp's previous mark of 62 set in 2017.
It sounds like Nacua will be able to play this week against the Seattle Seahawks, and that's not the only good news on the injury front for the Rams.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford who suffered a UCL sprain in his thumb against the Dallas Cowboys was a full-go in practice on Wednesday, and he is expected to start against the Seahawks on Sunday.
Kickoff between L.A. and Seattle is scheduled for 1:25 p.m. PT on Sunday, and the game will be televised on CBS.
