Why Derek Carr Can Use Rams Matthew Stafford As Inspiration

If Derek Carr wants his career to get back on track, he can use Matthew Stafford as an inspiration
In this story:

Former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is in the process of finding a place to call home after he was granted permission to seek a trade with another team.

And after spending his career wallowing with such a dysfunctional mess of a franchise, Carr's next destination will likely be one that he feels can build around and utilize his talents properly.

And maybe give him a shot at challenging for a Super Bowl.

Sound familiar?

It should, because it is the same issue that plagued Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford before he left the Detroit Lions for the LA ahead of the 2021 season.

And if you ask New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, the Stafford treatment is exactly what Carr needs to succeed at his next stop.

“He’s been asked to do a lot in his career,” Saleh said, via the New York Post. “I think he’s more in line with what Stafford’s career has been. If you can just get him to a place that can surround him with all the pieces to just allow him to play quarterback 10-15 times a game, it would be pretty cool. He’s a solid young man.”

Stafford spent more than a decade with the Lions, trapped on a treadmill of mediocrity, making the playoffs just a handful of times, while padding stats on bad teams.

Not that it was his fault, as the Lions have never been known for the ability to build a winner.

But then, with the flip of a switch, he was free, leading the Los Angeles Rams to a Super Bowl LVI win in 2022.

Carr may not have the raw talent or the football brain that Stafford does. Few do, in fact.

But one thing is certain, if Carr can find his way to a team that is committed to making his life easier, rather than the approach the Raiders have taken for nearly two decades, he does have the tools to take a team to the next level.

And perhaps beyond.
