Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay nearly walked away from his team and the NFL, after mulling over retirement this past offseason, despite being the youngest active coach in the league at the time.

Among the reasons for that near-retirement was an opportunity in broadcasting, and after a rough and disappointing 2022 that was filled with injuries, McVay began to ponder what he really wanted in his future.

And after a rough 3-6 start to the year, it looked like more of the same in 2023.

However, after a miracle late-season run in which his team won seven of their last nine games, and narrowly fell in their Wild Card matchup with the Detroit Lions, McVay admitted that this year's iteration of the Rams has helped once find his love for the game once again.

"Man, did I learn a lot, and really appreciate this group," McVay said after the loss. "They helped me find my way again, and how much I love this and how much I love the people that I'm around. And it's certainly always about people... these players, these coaches."

McVay had been a part of special teams before, reaching a Super Bowl early in his career behind Jared Goff - who is now with the Lions and beat them on Sunday night - a finally winning one in 2021 behind his quarterback and close friend, Matthew Stafford.

So what set this team apart from the rest?

This team was different. It was young, it was new, and it helped him find his passion for coaching the game again - something he had apparently been missing for some time.

"They reminded me why I love coaching so much," McVay said. "Nothing but gratitude, appreciation, and love."

Now, McVay will take this team into an offseason looking to plug the leaks that led to their heartbreaking loss on Sunday.

And with plenty of draft capital and approximately $56 million in cap space heading into the offseason, they should be able to make plenty of improvements to parlay a miracle 2023, into another special 2024.
