Rams' Aaron Donald To Steelers? Insider Denies Outrageous Rumor
Throughout the offseason, Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald has been the subject of many trade rumors.
With the Rams currently going through a major retool, trading Donald in exchange for future assets may seem to make sense. However, Donald is one of the best defensive players ever and one of the young unit's few veteran players, not to mention that he's still plenty productive even in his 30s. For the Rams to even consider trading Donald, they would need an offer that they couldn't refuse.
So far, the Rams haven't received any such offers. Earlier this month, general manager Les Snead spoke about how irreplaceable Donald is, indicating that he won't be moving any time soon.
"We’re never having another Aaron Donald, so we shouldn’t look for that. What we should do is figure out other ways to pressure the quarterback," Snead told the New York Times. "But replacing Aaron Donald? That’s a fruitless call."
Despite the apparent unlikelihood of a Donald trade happening, it hasn't stopped the myriad of rumors from popping up constantly. One team that has come up very often is the Pittsburgh Steelers, Donald's hometown club. According to NBC Sports' Peter King, though, Donald has no "burning desire" to finish his career in his hometown.
"I think, for the record, Aaron Donald is not likely to play the twilight of his career for the Steelers," King wrote. "I hear it’s not a burning desire of his."
It's not hard to see why some thought that Donald would want to play for the Steelers, As previously mentioned, he grew up in the area and starred in college for the Pittsburgh Panthers. With Donald's outstanding resume, a Pittsburgh homecoming could make for a storybook ending to a legendary career.
For now, though, it seems that won't be happening in the near future.
