Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald: 'I Still Consider Myself A Pittsburgh Steelers Fan'
Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald may play on the other side of the country from his hometown of Pittsburgh, but he still fully embraces his roots.
Donald not only grew up in the Steel City, but played for the Pittsburgh Panthers in college. After spending the first two decades plus of his life in Pittsburgh, it's only natural he still has fond feelings for the city.
With the Pittsburgh Steelers coming to L.A. on Sunday, Donald is facing his hometown team for just the third time in his decade-long career. Ahead of the big personal matchup, the three-time Defensive Player of the Year revealed an interesting detail about his NFL fandom. While Donald's Rams are obviously the team he supports the most, he shared on Thursday that he also roots for Pittsburgh as well.
“We all grew up big Steelers fans. I still consider myself a Steelers fan, obviously, until we got to play them. I still look to see if they're doing good. I'm still a Steelers fan myself until we got to suit up and play against them. So whole family is still Steelers fans, but now more Rams fans but it's pretty cool.”
While the Steelers are his hometown team, Donald isn't letting the emotions get the better of him. No matter the opponent, it's just business as usual for the future Hall of Fame defender.
“Not really. I was just talking to my dad like last week about playing the Steelers this week. He was asking me, ‘You get to play the hometown, how does it feel?’ I was like, ‘My first year I was excited about it.’ Obviously going back to Pittsburgh, it was exciting, but now it's just like, it's cool to play against the team that I grew up watching and all that, but it's just another week."
Despite all this talk of Pittsburgh, Rams fans need not worry. While there have been plenty of rumors about Donald potentially finishing his career with his hometown team, he hasn't paid any mind to that idea himself.
“Not really. I never thought of it. I never thought about it but no, no.”
