Can Browns Be Trade Suitor for Cam Akers After Nick Chubb Injury?

After Cleveland Browns star Nick Chubb suffered a gruesome knee injury on Monday night, they could become interested in Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers.
In this story:

After a surprising series of events, the Los Angeles Rams listed running back Cam Akers as a healthy scratch from their Week 2 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Just seven days after Akers started the season off in the win versus the Seattle Seahawks with an abysmal 29 yards on 22 carries, the Rams decided to go with Kyren Williams as their No. 1 back and started shopping the 24-year-old around the league.

And after Cleveland Browns star running back Nick Chubb went down during the team's Monday Night Football game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers with a gruesome knee injury, the Rams could perhaps have a new suitor for Akers.

Just minutes after Chubb was carted off the field, the Browns quickly ruled him out from the game before coach Kevin Stefanski delivered the expected news that he is likely out for the season in his post-game press conference.

While Chubb's backup, Jerome Ford, did catch a touchdown pass on the next play and totaled 106 yards on 16 carries, they are still expected to be in the market for help at the position.

This could make Akers a unique fit for Cleveland as they look for someone to help fill the void left by Chubb depth-wise. Akers, the former second-round, certainly still has gas left in the tank and, despite his horrid start to the season, showed a lot of promise at the end of last year.

Akers was benched in Week 1 last season and even spent two weeks away from the Rams before not being traded at the deadline and was welcomed back.

Upon his return, he showed the promise that made L.A. draft him in the first place, as he finished the season with 786 yards rushing with seven touchdowns on 188 carries, creating optimism for the season ahead.

Yet, after his Week 1 struggles, the Rams are again ready to move on, and with the Browns looking for help at the position, a trade could make sense for both sides. At the very least, the Rams could get a mid-to-late-round draft pick back while Akers receives a change of scenery.
