Commanders Request to Interview Rams DC Raheem Morris for Head Coaching Vacancy
It's the day after the regular season ended - commonly referred to as "Black Monday" around the league when head coaches are typically fired following sub-par performances.
This season is no different, as both Washington and Atlanta have fired their head coaches, following some firings in the regular season by the Panthers, Raiders and the Chargers.
Following the firing of Ron Rivera by the Commanders, Adam Schefter reports that Washington has asked for permission to interview Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris for its opening.
Morris has the Rams' defense performing at a high level and is no stranger to head coaching in the NFL.
The Hofstra graduate was the head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 to 2011, and the interim head coach in Atlanta in 2020 following the firing of Dan Quinn. Overall, Morris has posted a 21-38 record in the league with no division wins. While leading the Buccaneers, Morris went 17-31 and in 11 games as the interim coach for the Falcons, he went 4-7.
