Rams’ Cooper Kupp Named to ‘NFL Superstar Club’
Even after a right ankle injury limited him to just nine games in 2022, Los Angeles Rams' receiver Cooper Kupp was still granted access to an exclusive NFL group.
NFL Media's Dan Hanzus unveiled his annual "NFL Superstar Club" and Kupp was one of 10 receivers selected. The former Super Bowl MVP was joined by Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders, Ja'Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals, A.J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles, Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins, Stefon Diggs of the Buffalo Bills, Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings, D.K. Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks, Deebo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers and CeeDee Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys. Lamb was a new entry to the list, with bouncers ejecting free-agent wideout DeAndre Hopkins from the club.
Kupp -- who recently turned 30 -- led the NFL in catches (145), receiving yards (1,947), and receiving touchdowns (16) in 2021, en route to winning the Offensive Player of the Year Award and finishing third in MVP voting.
It will be hard for Kupp to ever match what he did in 2021, but he still had 75 receptions for 812 yards and six touchdowns in nine games a season ago. If both he and quarterback Matthew Stafford are healthy for the entirety of the 2023 season, there's no reason to think that Kupp won't compete for a First-Team All-Pro selection.
The Superstar Club only considered receivers, quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends, and kickers. Had it included defensive linemen, one would think future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald would be on the guest list, even if he himself only played in 11 games a season ago.
It remains to be seen if the Rams have enough top-end talent on their roster outside of Kupp and Donald to rebound from a disappointing 5-12 season a year ago and return to the postseason in 2023.
