Los Angeles Rams Extend Playoff Hopes, Crush Arizona Cardinals in Road Win
The Los Angeles Rams headed to Glendale to take on the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, desperately needing a win to keep their hopes of the playoffs alive.
And after a dominant 37-14 road performance, that is exactly what they got, earning their second-straight win over a division opponent in as many weeks.
After missing multiple weeks on injured reserve, it was clear that running back Kyren Williams would be a key part of the Rams game plan from the outset, with the second-year back feasting on an overwhelmed Arizona defense.
Williams finished the game with 16 carries for 143 yards on the ground, and led the Rams with six receptions for 61 yards and two touchdowns.
However, Williams was far from the only Ram to have a big day.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford also had one of his best games of the year, completing 25 of 33 passes for 229 yards and a season-high four touchdowns, with one interception.
Stafford also hit eight different receivers on the day, including five passes to tight end Tyler Higbee for two of his touchdowns.
And as if that weren't enough backup running back Royce Freeman rushed 13 times for 77 yards and a score of his own, bringing the Rams' rushing total to 228 yards as a team.
In the end, it was the best offensive performance of the year for the Rams, who scored a season-high 37 points and racked up 457 yards of total offense.
Meanwhile, the defense was equally as dominant, holding the Cardinals to just 292 total yards (most of which came in garbage time), including a mere 73 on the ground.
With the win, the Rams now move to 5-6 on the season, improving their thin playoff hopes for one more week.
The Rams will now turn their attention to a home matchup with the NFL's top defense in the Cleveland Browns.
