Los Angeles Rams Fall Apart But Survive in Overtime vs. Indianapolis Colts
Looking to move back to .500, the Los Angeles Rams came out with their hair on first in the first half against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
However, following a reported hip injury to quarterback Matthew Stafford, and a series of mistakes following that, the Rams blew a major lead before ultimately surviving and prevailing in overtime 29-23.
The Rams, who blew a 23-point lead that they held midway through the third quarter, began to fall apart after a Stafford interception, which the Colts were quickly able to turn into a touchdown on the other end.
And then on the next possession, things got worse for L.A., with kicker Brett Maher missing a field goal, increasing the Colts' momentum as a result.
The Colts were able to take advantage from there once again, with Anthony Ricardson leading another touchdown drive to make it a one-possession game.
But they didn't stop there.
After keeping the Rams off of the scoreboard yet again, the Colts were able to tie the game at 23 points apiece with just over five minutes to go in the game.
That touchdown would then force overtime. From there, however, Stafford put on a vintage performance, leading the Rams to a win, hitting Puka Nacua for a touchdown on the opening possession of the extra period, and sealing it for L.A.
Outside of the loss, the biggest story of the day for the Rams was without a doubt the health status of Stafford, who took a major hit in the third quarter and came up limping with a lower-body injury.
Stafford was noticeably bothered throughout the rest of the game, finishing completing 27 of 40 for 319 yards and the game-winning score.
Following their matchup with the Colts, the Rams will return home to Los Angeles, where they will face a major test in the defending NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles.
The Rams will hope to have star wideout Cooper Kupp back for that matchup, but depending on the status of Stafford, that addition could end up being a moot point.
