Ex Rams LB Headlines WWE Rookie Class
After a brief NFL stint with the Los Angeles Rams, Andrzej Hughes-Murray is pursuing a new passion in the sports world.
The former linebacker is one of nine members of WWE's spring rookie class, which was announced on Friday. Hughes-Murray and the other eight recruits will begin their journey toward becoming wrestling stars at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
Hughes-Murray signed with L.A. as an undrafted free agent in 2022. However, the Rams released him before the season, so he never played a game with the team.
Before that, the linebacker spent six years in college at Oregon State, although he didn't play in 2019 due to injury. In his time with the Beavers, Hughes-Murray recorded 157 tackles, 22 tackles for loss and 11 sacks.
Wrestling isn't new to the former linebacker though. While attending Federal Way High School in Washington, Hughes-Murray was a four-year letterman and two-year captain of the wrestling team. As a senior, he won the Washington State 4A title at 220 pounds with a perfect 41-0 record.
Hughes-Murray isn't the only former football player in this rookie class. The others include former defensive end Hunter Smallbeck (Stetson), former tight end Coy Wanner (Wisconsin) and former defensive lineman Kevin Robertson (Temple). However, Hughes-Murray is the only one to sign with an NFL team.
Other rookies have backgrounds in different sports as well, including basketball and track and field.
Hughes-Murray's football career may not have gone as planned, but breaking into the wrestling world is an exciting opportunity all its own.
