Rams Hire Ex-Fired Lions Coach Aubrey Pleasant as Defensive Assistant
The Los Angeles Rams' offseason coaching carousel has made its next stop.
According to ESPN, the Rams have hired Aubrey Pleasant as their secondary coach and passing game coordinator, filling the vacancy created by the team's parting of ways with Jonathan Cooley.
It's a return to Los Angeles for Pleasant, who followed Rams coach Sean McVay from the now-Washington Commanders in 2017. Pleasant served as the Rams' cornerbacks coach for four seasons before departing in Jan. 2021.
Pleasant became the Detroit Lions defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator, a slight upgrade over his role in Los Angeles, but more importantly, it presented an opportunity to return home, as he grew up in nearby Flint, Michigan.
However, Pleasant's tenure with the Lions came to a premature close, as he was fired after Week 8 of the 2022 season. He finished out the year as a consultant for the Green Bay Packers.
Still, Pleasant is highly thought of around the league - so much so that he received an interview for the Minnesota Vikings' defensive coordinator opening last offseason.
And now, the former Wisconsin Badgers safety gets a chance to rebuild his stock - in the place where he did it the first time just over two years ago.
