Los Angeles Rams 'Hopeful' For Cooper Kupp Return From IR
The Los Angeles Rams have been without their top offensive playmaker, Cooper Kupp, throughout the first three weeks of the season.
And over that time, the Rams are just 1-2.
However, according to Rams head coach Sean McVay, there could be some 'hope' on the horizon, with Kupp seemingly on track to return in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“That’s the hope,” McVay told reporters when asked about Kupp coming off of the injured reserve list after Week 5.
Of course, that is far from a guarantee from McVay on Kupp's status.
Given his history over the last year and change, that is probably the smart route for McVay to take as well.
That said, it seems clear that at the very least, Kupp is progressing nicely with his rehab.
“Oh yeah, he's progressing," McVay said. "He's doing a good job, but I don't want to pigeonhole myself. He's ramping up his workload. He's doing a great job with (VP of Sports Medicine and Performance) Reggie (Scott) and his group, but when you're talking about returning to performance and returning to play, those are different things."
Obviously, the Rams want their top pass catcher in the lineup sooner rather than later. But they also don't want to rush him.
Luckily for them, they have several pieces in place that have helped them remain productive in the passing game in his absence, such as Tutu Atwell and Puka Nacua.
As such, they do seem to have the luxury of waiting an additional week for his return, should that be necessary.
"We want him to be able to return to performance at the level that he's capable of and so we're continuing to take it a day at a time," McVay said. "I know he's doing everything in his power to be able to get himself ready to go and get out there with his teammates and hopefully next week will represent that.”
The Rams take on the Colts in Indianapolis this Sunday, in what the Rams hope will be their final without Kupp in the lineup.
