Kliff Kingsbury, Other USC Coaches Attend Rams Practice

Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury was among three USC Trojans assistants to attend the Los Angeles Rams' practice on Wednesday

The Los Angeles Rams hosted some neighbors on Wednesday, and a familiar face was among them.

Three USC Trojans assistant coaches attended the Rams' OTAs on Wednesday, and chief among them was senior offensive analyst Kliff Kingsbury. The other coaches in attendance were tight ends coach Zach Hanson and assistant head coach/passing game coordinator Dennis Simmons.

Of course, Kingsbury spent the last four seasons as the head coach of the division-rival Arizona Cardinals. The Rams are very familiar with Kingsbury, going 7-2 against him as head coach of the Cardinals. That includes a 34-11 blowout win in the 2021 Wild Card Round, which kicked off the Rams' Super Bowl run.

Despite their rivalry on the field, Kingsbury and Rams head coach Sean McVay are close friends off of it. Both share a similar offensive philosophy and as two of the younger coaches in the league recently, they have quite a bit in common.

“We have a great relationship," Kingsbury said in January 2022. "Probably would be even closer if we weren’t in the same division, but it’s kind of hard to share some trade secrets whenever you’re playing each other a couple of times a year.

"But I think the world of Sean. The job he’s done there. The consistency they’ve had since he’s been there, so it’s been fun to watch him have that type of success and I’m always pulling for him except when they play us.”

Recently, the Rams and Trojans have had more connections than just sharing the same city. USC quarterback Caleb Williams is the projected first-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and the Rams have been one of the teams linked to him most often. With three offensive coaches in the house on Wednesday, perhaps the Rams got some inside knowledge on the star signal-caller.

The Rams hope they aren't bad enough to get the top overall pick, but if they do, then they may have better insight on Williams than any other team.
