Rams Ex-LB Leonard Floyd A Free Agency Fit With Seahawks?
Looking ahead to the 2023 season, the Los Angeles Rams face several uncertainties regarding their pass rush. However, one question has already been resolved: the status of linebacker Leonard Floyd, who will not be returning to the team after he was released earlier this off-season.
Surprisingly, Floyd is still on the free-agency market after he led the Rams with nine sacks last season. According to CBS Sports, the Seattle Seahawks have been coined as a possible landing spot for Floyd.
"Seattle made sure to invest in its front seven this offseason, paying a pretty penny to add Dre'Mont Jones and reunite with Jarran Reed," CBS Sports writes. "But the Seahawks could still use some juice off the edge, and Floyd, a cap casualty of the rival Rams, has quietly posted at least nine sacks in three straight seasons. He could be a plug-and-play 3-4 outside linebacker for them."
The Seahawks' roster contains few weaknesses, but their pass rush is one area where they could enhance their depth. Acquiring a player like Floyd, who has amassed 47 and a half career sacks, would undoubtedly help Seattle's chances of winning the NFC West.
General manager John Schneider has diligently bolstered the Seahawks' defensive line this offseason. He recently signed defensive tackle Dre'Mont Jones, who has recorded 18.0 sacks over the past three years.
Additionally, Schneider made another big move by bringing back defensive tackle Jarran Reed, who spent his first five seasons with the Seahawks before being released in March 2021. While Reed has faced challenges in regaining his previous form since leaving Seattle, the hope is that his reunion with head coach Pete Carroll will reignite his performance and bring out his best once again.
If Floyd were to join the Seahawks, it would only present another significant obstacle for the Rams in their pursuit of an NFC West title this season.
