In this story:

Liam Coen has bounced back and forth between the Los Angeles Rams and college football for the past couple of seasons, and now he is back in the NFL.

Coen was in the SEC with Mark Stoops and the Kentucky football team last year, but he was recently hired to fill the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator job.

And in his press conference after the hiring, he thanked Rams head coach Sean McVay for helping him along his journey to now.

"I'd like to thank Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams organization for essentially getting me my PhD in coaching," Coen said. "I was able to learn under those guys and a first-class organization."

Coen first came to the Rams in 2018 to be the assistant wide receivers coach and was then moved to the assistant quarterbacks coach in 2020. He then left to be the offensive coordinator for Kentucky in the SEC.

Five Free Agents the Rams Must Prioritize

Two years later, he returned to the Rams as the team's offensive coordinator. And after a year in L.A., it was back to Lexington to be the Wildcats' offensive coordinator once again

Now, Coen is back in the NFL with a promising Buccaneers squad that looked solid in the playoffs considering their 9-8 regular season record.

Current and former Rams coaches continue to be popular targets amongst teams who need coaching positions filled. Coen will look to take that team further next season, and if he does, he could be yet another branch on the ever-expanding McVay coaching tree.
