After nine professional seasons, former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Sean Mannion is officially retiring from the NFL, ESPN's Brady Henderson reports.

In the process, Mannion is trading in his cleats for a headset, as he will join the Green Bay Packers' coaching staff for the next step in his football career. Mannion will reportedly work with the Packers' quarterbacks and passing game, although his exact title is not yet known.

"I’ve heard from several people over the last few years who said Mannion was destined to eventually coach because of his intelligence and understanding of the game," Henderson wrote on X. "He’ll get that start in Green Bay after finishing last season on the Seahawks’ practice squad."

The Rams were the team to give Mannion his start at the NFL level, taking him in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He played sparingly in his four years with the team, appearing in just 10 regular season games and starting only one.

Since leaving L.A. in 2019, Mannion has bounced back and forth between the Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks, spending three separate stints with each team despite never playing a regular season game for the latter. Most recently, he was on the Seahawks' practice squad for the final month of the 2023 season.

Mannion, 31, is also the all-time passing leader at Oregon State with 13,600 yards in his four-year college career.
