Rams' Sean McVay Believes Young Players Have 'Bought Into' Team Culture
The Los Angeles Rams have been given nothing but low expectations by the NFL community throughout the offseason due to their extremely young and inexperienced roster. However, they quickly silenced millions last Sunday, when they defeated the Seattle Seahawks 30-13.
Rams coach Sean McVay explained earlier this week that his team won because they are "accountable, coachable and they love playing football with their teammates." That being said, McVay believes that this young team of unknown talent understands the Rams culture.
“I think they've bought in," McVay said during Wednesday's press conference. "These guys have been incredible. The energy of this team, the leadership from the guys that have been here, and then the way that these guys have worked, it's been outstanding. It's why we felt as good as we did going into that game."
McVay said that he's been attempting to establish a growth mindset "every single day" and it seems like the players have bought into that as well, especially in the "hostile" Seahawks environment.
"When things don't go our way, let's understand the work ends up being the solution," McVay said. "Let's continue to optimize our ability to play at our best, figure out the way that we can continue to connect and be complimentary as a team with the way that we want to be able to play. It was great."
The Seahawks are considered one of the better teams in the NFL due to last season's playoff berth, but the San Francisco 49ers, their next opponent, have the Super Bowl in their sights this year. McVay described what it will take to defeat another NFC West division rival.
“A complete team effort," McVay said. "I think it's going to take everybody playing at their best and it's a great challenge. And I think the biggest thing is they've been a great team. They've done a great job. I think it's a real credit to (49ers coach) Kyle (Shanahan) and that organization and their players, their coaches, and so it's been challenging."
The Rams will host the 49ers on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. PT on FOX.
