Los Angeles Rams’ Sean McVay Reveals TE Tyler Higbee is ‘Fighting Through A Lot of Stuff’

The Los Angeles Rams’ tight end is battling an injury and potentially other problems as well.
In this story:

Sunday was a difficult day for the Los Angeles Rams as they fell to the Green Bay Packers 20-3 at Lambeau Field, but it was also a quiet day for tight end Tyler Higbee.

Higbee did not record a catch in the loss, but he was targeted once. After the game, head coach Sean McVay revealed some details about Higbee’s current limitations on the field.

“He’s playing with something that restricts his right thumb,” McVay said.

McVay also made mention that the tight end has “been fighting through a lot of stuff,” likely meaning his limited role on Sunday is a combination of the injury and the other issues he has been dealing with.

The loss was a difficult pill for the Rams to swallow, dropping them to 3-6 overall on the season. It also came without franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford who is dealing with a UCL sprain in his throwing thumb.

Higbee has been with the Rams since their move to Los Angeles, and in games decided by three or fewer points for L.A. this season, he has recorded 3.75 catches and 50.5 receiving yards per game.

So far this season, Higbee has hauled in 26 receptions for 286 yards and no scores. With Stafford currently on the shelf with an injury, the tight end’s absence comes at a less-than-ideal time for the Rams, but can they cover for him with other players on the roster if his production remains limited?

The jury is still out, but after Sunday’s difficult performance on offense, it’s clear that the Rams need some help on that side of the ball until Stafford returns.

L.A.’s next game will come at home on Sunday when they play host to the Seattle Seahawks. Kickoff is slated for 1:25 p.m. PT, and the game will be televised on CBS.
