WATCH: Matthew Stafford Uses Off Day To Mentor Stetson Bennett

Matthew Stafford was given a veteran rest day at Los Angeles Rams training camp. And he used that day to help his fellow Georgia Bulldog, Stetson Bennett.

The Los Angeles Rams selected Stetson Bennett in this year's NFL Draft, hoping that he could eventually become a successor to their current starting quarterback, Matthew Stafford.

While that would be a tall task for any young QB, as a two-time national, Bennett has proven himself capable of leading teams to success.

However, unlike some veteran/rookie quarterback relationships, Stafford is also seemingly determined to see Bennett succeed. So much so, that he used his veteran off day to help mentor his new protege.

Stafford has been impressed with Bennett thus far as well, noting his maturity early on in training camp.

“There’s always a lot to learn as a rookie to feel comfortable in an offense, especially in your first time on an NFL field in a training camp practice,” Stafford said, “but I thought he handled himself well.”

Meanwhile, Stafford is heading towards the end of his career.

But despite rumors of the Rams attempting to move him this offseason, Stafford, 35, is not ready to hang up the shoulder pads just yet. In fact, he is angling for a strong return after a beyond-subpar 2022 season.

And Bennett is ready to watch and learn.

“To be able to come in here and just learn from him and listen has been pretty cool,” Bennett said at training camp. “I haven’t fan-boy’d out yet.”
