Los Angeles Rams' Sean McVay Reveals Team's Focus at Halfway Point of NFL Season
The Los Angeles Rams sit with a 3-6 record at the halfway point of the 2023 NFL season, and while they have had their fair share of adversity, head coach Sean McVay is still not losing hope on a strong finish to the campaign.
The Rams have been riddled with injuries in the early portions of the year, including franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford in recent weeks. That, in McVay's mind, is priority No. 1: getting healthy.
“I think No. 1 is getting guys back healthy and then just being able to consistently play better across the board," McVay said this week. "I think when we get a lot of these guys back, I think that'll immediately offer an opportunity for us to play more consistently like we've seen us do in certain stretches. You look at it offensively, you get a guy like (OL) Rob Havenstein and obviously getting (QB) Matthew (Stafford) back would be a tremendous boost."
There are also a few pieces that the Rams hope to get back following this weekend's game against the Seattle Seahawks, namely running back Kyren Williams who was sidelined after a win over the Arizona Cardinals.
"Coming after Seattle then we expect to be able to get (RB) Kyren Williams back," McVay said. "On defense, you’re getting (LB) Ernest Jones back, you're getting (NT) Bobby Brown back. We're talking about a lot of significant names that have been big time contributors for us that we have not had. Those guys are very, very important cogs in the big picture.”
"The big picture" for Los Angeles goes beyond this season, of course, but if the Rams hope to get back in the playoff conversation, they have to win and win quickly. Injuries to key players can derail any season, but if the Rams can get healthy here in the middle of the schedule, perhaps all hope is not lost on 2023.
The next test for L.A. will come on Sunday when they play host to their division foe, the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle, like the Rams, is fresh off a loss, and kickoff in that game is slated for 1:25 p.m. PT, and the game will be televised on CBS.
