Sean McVay Reveals 'Mr. Dad' Role During Los Angeles Rams' Week 10 Bye
The Los Angeles Rams Week 10 bye was wonderfully-timed, giving quarterback Matthew Stafford an extra week to recover from his thumb injury and allowing a team in the midst of a season-endangering slump to collect itself.
Head coach Sean McVay, however, probably didn’t get as much sleep during the break. After threatening McVay’s availability for a couple of games, Jordan John McVay—the head coach’s first child—was before Week 8.
Subsequently, McVay spent his bye week perfecting a new craft: fatherhood.

The Rams head coach spoke about his week on Monday.
“It was great,” McVay said. “I thought it came at a great time being able to have the baby a couple weeks ago and spend some time learning how to change diapers and all that kind of stuff. I went all in. I wasn't just sitting on the sidelines watching so I was trying to help out and not get in my wife's way.”
Los Angeles sits at 3-6, with losses in three consecutive games (and four of its last five). The offense has lost its potency, especially with Stafford missing Week 9, and an inexperienced defense is starting to show serious holes. Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb began his torrid stretch with 12 catches for 158 yards and two scores when the Rams came to town.
McVay was grateful for the timing of the bye. Fans could have used the break, too. Week 9’s 20-3 loss was one of the worst offensive performances of the McVay era and erased the optimism that came with a 2-2 start to the season.
“I think it was really good for everybody, and it came at the right time and now we're excited to be able to attack the second half of the season,” McVay began. “A lot of good opportunities for us to play good clean ball.”
Of course, McVay was able to prepare for the Rams’ Week 11 date with the Seattle Seahawks—a team they shocked in Week 1—but no one can blame him for getting his priorities in order. Seattle will visit Los Angeles coming off of a close win against the Washington Commanders. Needless to say, the pressure is on to stay afloat in the NFC West.
“It was a really good week and a lot of Mr. Dad, which was kind of cool,” McVay concluded. “I can get used to it.”
