Baltimore Ravens vs. Indianapolis Colts: Anthony Richardson Ruled OUT for Week 3
The Baltimore Ravens faced a rookie quarterback two weeks ago in Houston Texans signal-caller C.J. Stroud, buy now they will not be facing their second of the season.
Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen told reporters Wednesday that Anthony Richardson is still in concussion protocol and will not practice after hitting his head on the turf of NRG Stadium Sunday against the Texans. That status as of Friday has not changed. So quarterback Gardner Minshew will get the start against the Ravens.
In the first quarter against Houston Sunday, Indianapolis was set up on the Texans' 15-yard line following a strip sack of Stroud. Richardson faked a jet sweep to wide receiver Josh Downs going to the left, kept it and ran down the right sideline and into the end zone for his second rushing touchdown of the day.
Texans safety M.J. Stewart shoved Richardson at the pylon, and as the Colts quarterback fell to the ground, his head snapped backward and bounced off the turf.
Richardson returned to play two more drives before Minshew took over for the final 42 minutes of the game. Richardson self-reported his concussion to the team, Steichen said after the game.
Richardson was 6-for-10 for 56 yards while rushing for 35 yards on three carries and two touchdowns. According to Next Gen Stats, Richardson reached 19.1 mph on his 18-yard touchdown run, which the average quarterback would have scored on 1.8 percent of the time. Minshew was 19-for-23 for 171 yards and a touchdown in relief.
