Ravens BREAKING: Colts Anthony Richardson Concussion, ‘Likely OUT’ in Week 3
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson exited Sunday's 31-20 win over the Houston Texans after suffering a concussion, and an NFL source tells RavenCountry.com at SI that the rookie is “likely out” and won’t be allowed to play against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3
Richardson was moved to the locker room during the second quarter of a Week 2 game in which Indianapolis held a 14-7 on the strength of two Richardson rushing TDs.
Richardson appeared to hit the back of his head on the turf after a collision during his 15-yard TD run midway through the first quarter. Colts coach Shane Steichen said the team believes the injury occurred on that play.
Richardson came back into the game on the Colts' next possession - which could be a subject of medical controversy - before he himself reported feeling concussion-like symptoms.
Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft, finished with 56 passing yards (6 of 10) and 35 yards rushing.
"You're always concerned," Colts owner Jim Irsay told the media after the game. "The first game, he banged up the knee, but it was OK, just a contusion. This game, banging the head. I think it's just something where he's got to protect himself.
“He's a big physical guy. Obviously, he can run the football and guys do a lot of running now at that position. And, so I think self-protection is an issue."
Veteran journeyman Gardner Minshew figures as the Colts starting QB against the undefeated Ravens.
