Stroud Named Texans Starter For Week 1 vs. Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens finally found out who will be starting at quarterback for the Houston Texans when the two teams match up on Sep. 10 for Week 1 of the regular season.
C.J. Stroud, a 21-year-old quarterback out of Ohio State University, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Being such a high pick, there are bound to be high expectations for the Houston rookie.
Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans, who is also in his first year after serving as a coach for the San Francisco 49ers since 2017, announced on Sunday night that Stroud would officially be the starting quarterback on opening day against the Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.
During his time with the Ohio State Buckeyes, Stroud threw for 8,123 passing yards and 85 touchdowns on a 69 percent completion percentage. In two full seasons of college football, he made first-team All-Big Ten twice and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting during his last season.
Now official, the quarterback matchup for the Week 1 game between the Ravens and the Texans will be Stroud vs. Baltimore star Lamar Jackson.
The Ravens - whose 24-game preseason winning streak was snapped in the exhibition loss to the cross-town rival Commanders - hope to improve on last season's 10-7 record and manage another visit to the NFL postseason.
