Ravens Free Agency Rumors: Is Gabe Davis Baltimore's Missing Piece?
After failing to make the Super Bowl for the eleventh straight season, the Baltimore Ravens roster is due for some roster changes this offseason.
Many fans are focused on maintaining an elite defense and nervous about how the unit will hold up with notable free agents such as linebacker Patrick Queen and defensive tackle Justin Madubuike. However, signing a new name, such as wide receiver Gabe Davis, might be even more impactful.
“Lamar Jackson won’t fully take the next step until he has two reliable pass catchers on the outside,” Yahoo Sports writes. “A Gabe Davis-Zay Flowers duo would be dynamic and explosive. The Bills wideout is a vertical deep threat who has averaged 16.7 yards per reception and scored 27 touchdowns over the past four seasons.”
With 2,730 receiving yards since 2020, Davis' production as a receiver is No. 2 on the Bills since entering the league only behind superstar Stephon Diggs.
Standing at 6-2 and weighing 225 pounds, Davis could be a terrific compliment to Zay Flowers in Baltimore, who’s 5-9 and weighs 182 pounds, because both have proven that they can frustrate defenses with entirely different tools that they’re working with stature-wise.
What makes Davis an intriguing option is all the potential he’s flashed, but Buffalo has failed to capitalize on consistently.
The game when Davis burst onto the scene for most NFL fans was against the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2022. In that AFC Championship game, Davis would catch eight of his 10 targets for 201 yards and four touchdowns, one of the best-receiving games in recent history in one of the biggest games possible.
That type of big-game performance is precisely what the Ravens need. In this year's AFC Championship, Baltimore only had 255 total passing yards against the Chiefs, and 115 came from Flowers in the receiving game.
Mock Draft Data: Analyzing the Ravens' Most Popular Picks
If this team wants to get back into the Super Bowl, it needs to beat the back-to-back champs, so getting the Chiefs' kryptonite might be exactly the type of move that the Ravens need to make.
With established No. 1 options such as Brandon Aiyuk, Mike Evans, and Michael Pittman garnering a lot of attention, as well as Tee Higgins getting a lot of praise for his upside, there’s a chance that Davis doesn’t command a crazy contract because he’s not considered the best of this wide receiver free agent crop, but that could help Baltimore land the underrated receiver with star potential.
