Will Ravens Pursue DeAndre Hopkins After Doing Their 'Homework'?
The Baltimore Ravens are in an intriguing position; they have re-signed quarterback Lamar Jackson, locking his future down. They also gave him some playmakers in the form of Odell Beckham Jr., Nelson Agholor, and Zay Flowers. Just a week ago, many would've thought that was it for the Ravens at receiver, but a curveball was thrown on Friday as the Arizona Cardinals released DeAndre Hopkins.
With Hopkins now on the open market, does that spark interest from the Ravens? Potentially, a recent article from The Athletic revealed that the Ravens have already done some homework on a potential addition of the star playmaker.
"They did their due diligence on Hopkins earlier this offseason, back when it was well-documented that the Cardinals were looking to unload the wide receiver," The Athletic writes. "They did their homework on the player, his personality fit and what it would take in terms of draft capital and salary-cap space to make a deal work. Ultimately, they backed off, and despite several reports that indicated otherwise, it does not appear Baltimore was ever really close to a deal."
The Ravens looking into a deal for Hopkins makes sense, as they needed more at wide receiver as the passing game was a weakness offensively. ... But with the additions of Beckham, Agholor, and Flowers, is that enough to justify passing on Hopkins?
The five-time All-Pro still can be that 1,000-yard receiver if he can stay on the field, something that's been an issue as of late. Injuries hindered him in 2021, as he played just 10 games, which was followed up by just nine this past season due to a six-game suspension to start the season.
Hopkins would certainly be less of a risk than Beckham, who didn't play last season as he recovered from his ACL injury, but financially it may not make sense for Baltimore to commit more money to the position.
