Ravens Signing DeAndre Hopkins Will Be Harder Than Just Numbers

On Saturday, a source indicated that Hopkins wants to secure a significant contract on the open market.
In this story:

After the departure of All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from Arizona, speculation began to swirl about where he might next call home. And now, the Ravens are a top betting favorite to land Hopkins at +650.

Adding Hopkins to the pass-catching corps of Beckham Jr., Agholor, Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay, and rookie Flowers would look impressive, and what's more, it would mean that conference rivals Kansas City and Buffalo didn't have his services.

But it's not as clear-cut as to where Hopkins wants to play or what team wants him the most. Per PFT, on Saturday, a source indicated that Hopkins wants to secure a significant contract on the open market.

And considering when Hopkins was still employed by the Cardinals with a contract just less than $20 million per year there were no takers, that could be difficult for Hopkins to obtain. Especially considering Hopkins currently is unrepresented.

Currently, the notorious Saint Omni is running things for Hopkins, and at least one possible contender for his services is hesitant to deal with Omni, and for good reason. Last year, the NFL specifically warned teams not to deal with Omni or any other non-certified agent in connection with Roquan Smith.

Hopkins' relationship with Omni could make teams who would otherwise be interested shy away.

Between Hopkins' reported lofty contract expectations and current uncertified representation by Omni, a new deal for the former Texan and Cardinal might not be as easy as it seems.
