Colts Still Showing Interest In Lamar Jackson
As the Lamar Jackson vs. Baltimore Ravens saga continues, some call it "negotiations", few teams have shown any interest in orchestrating a trade for or contract offer to the former league MVP and Heisman Trophy winner.
But there is at least one.
The team that once deceived the city of Baltimore with an overnight departure from town appears to be now interested in that very city's quarterback.
The Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson, which means he's free to negotiate a new contract with any team. Baltimore will have the opportunity to match, or let Jackson walk in exchange for two first-round picks.
And Indianapolis has been reeling since the unexpected retirement of former signal-caller Andrew Luck in 2019, the year Jackson won the NFL MVP.
ESPN reports that the Colts haven't ruled out interest in Jackson.
Although a run at Jackson remains possible for the Colts, the team “has not taken any substantive steps regarding Jackson,” per ESPN. According to the report, “team sources have expressed skepticism” about an attempt to woo Jackson.
Negotiations with any team will be delicate, as Jackson has reportedly wanted a deal north of $200 million, all guaranteed.
And there's always the possibility the Ravens match the deal and Jackson remains in Baltimore.
The Colts are also most likely looking at drafting a rookie quarterback, but those don't always work out the way teams anticipate. Jackson could still be the best opportunity for the Colts, even at north of $200 million guaranteed.
