J.K. Dobbins Skips Workout In Contract Dispute; Goal? ‘Ravens for Life!’
There are times where the events happening at events like the Baltimore Ravens’ mandatory minicamp can get overblown.
Because of this, it seems every year an NFL team - whether it’s the Ravens or not - suddenly rises up the charts of dark horse contenders or falls into the pits of football despair.
All over a few practices with no pads, no contact, and no game planning involved.
But that’s the day and age we live in, so we roll with the punches and try to balance out the expectations.
Of course, then there are things that happen this time of year that draw our interest because they really matter. Like a player not working in that mandatory minicamp. … Especially one with the potential to be as impactful as Baltimore running back J.K. Dobbins.
“The thing I can say is, I would love to be a Baltimore Raven for the rest of my career,” Dobbins said to the local CBS station when asked where he and the team stood in relation to his future. “Because I love the city, I love the people. It feels like family here. Like, it feels like home here, my second home. And I hope that happens, I hope that happens.”
After the drawn-out contract drama between the Ravens and quarterback Lamar Jackson - and a contract extension wish is why Dobbins attended but did not work / this is about the last thing the team wanted to see happen.
“I expected J.K. to practice, and it wasn’t in the cards, apparently,” coach John Harbaugh said after the final minicamp practice June 15. “[He’ll] just get ready for training camp.”
Dobbins is still in his rookie deal with Baltimore that expires at the end of this coming season.
If the running back is going to be with the Ravens for the rest of his career like he desires, it’s becoming apparent he wants the next stretch to be secured before stepping on the field this year.
