NFL Head Coach Rankings: Ravens John Harbaugh Top 5?
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is considered one of the better coaches in the NFL. Having been the Ravens' head coach for 15 seasons and has overseen 11 winning campaigns, Harbaugh is in the top group of coaches.
CBS Sports has released its head coaching rankings ahead of training camp, with Harbaugh coming in at No. 5.
"The recent playoff results haven't been overly encouraging (notice a theme here?); his Ravens have won just a single postseason contest in the last eight years," CBS Sports writes. "But his last half-decade has proven he's more adaptable than most, building around Lamar Jackson while maintaining a stingy "D." Should Jackson make another leap of his own, Harbaugh could finally contend for a second ring."
Harbaugh at No. 5 five feels right, and the coaches above him include Sean McVay (No. 4), Bill Belichick (No. 3), Kyle Shanahan (No. 2), and Andy Reid taking out the top spot.
That is some company for Harbaugh. But ... should he be ranked higher?
We aren't sure what the criteria were for the ranking, but if we base it on last season, Harbaugh (9-8) had a better campaign than McVay (5-12) and Belichick (8-9).
Still, being named a top-five NFL head coach is no doubt due reward for his high-level coaching that has seen the Ravens only have one losing season in the last seven years.
With Lamar Jackson back in the fold and an offense that now has Odell Beckham Jr., Nelson Agholor, and Zay Flowers to complement Mark Andrews, Rashod Bateman, and Devin Duvernay, Todd Monken had a lot to work with as the Ravens are set to one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL.
Many think the Ravens can challenge not only for the AFC but the Super Bowl, and if Harbaugh can win his second ring as Baltimore's head coach, he will no doubt move up the list next season.
