'It's A Courageous Game!' John Harbaugh Reflects on Ravens Preseason Win Streak
For the first time since 2015, the Baltimore Ravens lost a preseason game.
Baltimore's win-streak in the preseason had reached a record 24 games before it was snapped on Monday night in a 29-28 loss to the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field. A 49-yard field goal from Commanders kicker Joey Slye with 12 seconds left in the game completed their comeback in the fourth quarter.
The Ravens' streak brought upon mixed feelings, but it gave typically meaningless preseason games much more meaning. The final result actually mattered in games primarily meant for players and coaches to get reps in and determine position battles.
For Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, it's easy to reflect on the streak and wonder how it came to be. But in the end, winning 24 straight preseason games says a lot about the organization and its players over the last seven years.
"There's no one reason it happens but it says a lot about a lot of people," Harbaugh said. "A lot of people's effort, a lot of good practice, a lot of good meeting time, a lot of young players working hard to be as good as they can be, [and] a lot of coaches developing those players. All of those things come into play but it's about football and the men and women now who play the game and it shows you what makes this game so great."
Harbaugh added: "It's a courageous game. It's a game for courageous people and it's a game for people willing to go out there and throw themselves around in really tough, [and] awkward situations. It takes that kind of grit to play this game and to fight like that."
Baltimore will look to carry some momentum into the regular season when they go on the road to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday in its final preseason game.
