Ravens in a 'Haze' Over Lamar Jackson Contract Says Eric DeCosta

Baltimore Ravens GM Eric DeCosta says that the franchise is struggling to get its business done with the looming contract decision regarding Lamar Jackson hanging around.
In this story:

The Lamar Jackson contract decision is now entering dangerous territory for the Baltimore Ravens.

Having taken up most of the offseason thoughts from Ravens officials, the fact that a deal is not closer than what it was weeks ago is starting to affect what Baltimore does regarding the draft and free agency.

Ravens' general manager Eric DeCosta spoke at the Scouting Combine and hinted that doing business would become a lot easier if Jackson's deal had been done already.

"It is a wrench [in the plans]," DeCosta said.

"You don't know. It slows you up a little bit. It does kind of create a little bit of a haze as to what the future is going to look like with your roster. There are some things that we're not going to do right now that maybe we would try to do [if the deal were done]."

Does this hint at a bit of frustration at the Jackson contract situation? And the fact is, the sooner the Ravens know one way or the other, then everything else will fall into place.

There have been rumors that Baltimore could use the non-exclusive franchise tag on Lamar if a deal can't be agreed upon, but surely both sides don't want it to come to that.

Given that this has dragged out for the best part of two years, are we finally starting to see some cracks in the foundations between the Ravens and their star quarterback?

Possibly.

No one can doubt Lamar's importance to the Baltimore organization, and despite all the glowing things the Ravens have said about Lamar publicly, that contract is yet to be signed.

And being in this kind of "haze" over how the franchise moves forward amid Jackson's uncertainty is a worrying place to be for the Ravens.
