Ravens QB Lamar Jackson 'Embracing' Leadership Role Under Todd Monken
The Baltimore Ravens have undergone an offensive transformation this offseason as Todd Monken has brought a new system and style to Lamar Jackson's team.
With Jackson being given the keys to the offense and to work out what he likes and doesn't, there is more freedom for the former MVP winner. But with things tailored to Jackson comes responsibility.
Being the offense's leader has its perks and drawbacks, but Monken says that Jackson is slowly finding his groove as the voice of the offense.
"He has embraced it," Monken said via The Athletic. "He's embraced trying to be louder, trying to be in control. He's embraced learning the system, and we've still got a ways to go. It's always a work in progress. We're always under construction, in terms of making sure that we execute at a high level, because execution trumps everything."
Under former offensive coordinator Greg Roman, the biggest issue was reportedly that Jackson couldn't make changes at the line of scrimmage and get into a play with a better chance of success.
The Ravens were also very run-dominant, but now with Monken and his more vertical-oriented offense, Lamar could be about to showcase his true abilities as a passer.
The Ravens' offense has some serious weapons with Odell Beckham Jr., the returning Rashod Bateman, Zay Flowers, free agent acquisition Nelson Agholor, and tight end Mark Andrews.
But not only that, but it is an offensive system that will no doubt be designed to get the ball into their hands and make plays.
Lamar got his big payday this offseason, and now he is working on being the true leader of an offense that is the envy of the NFL.
