Lamar Jackson 'Really Into' Ravens' New Offense - Eric De Costa
One of the most significant changes this offseason for the Baltimore Ravens has been the new offense implemented by coordinator Todd Monken.
Taking over from Greg Roman, Monken wants a more vertical-style offense to complement the embarrassment of riches at the receiver position. With Lamar Jackson having perhaps the best collection of talent at his disposal since entering the league, expectations are high on the Ravens offense.
General manager Eric DeCosta thinks that Jackson's "buy-in" to the new scheme will produce great things.
"He seems really into the offense – he's excited about it," DeCosta said. "He has an awesome relationship with his coaches, and he worked very hard this offseason with some of the receivers that we brought in, which is awesome to see. I think it's showing up, and it's going to pay dividends for us."
With Odell Beckham Jr., Zay Flowers, and Nelson Agholor joining the Ravens flock this offseason, naturally, there is a different vibe around the building, and Lamar has been part of that vibe.
Jackson's off-field life is now in order as his once-sticky contract situation has now been resolved, much to the delight of Ravens fans.
For DeCosta, there is a noticeable difference in how Jackson is going about his business this offseason compared to last season.
"Lamar's attitude has been excellent this year," DeCosta said. "I think last year was a challenging year for a lot of reasons, obviously, just where he was with his contract. This year, his enthusiasm has been fantastic. He's throwing the ball very well. He's been able to build a great rapport with the receivers very quickly. He's taking care of his body."
With Monken giving Jackson the keys to the offense to allow him to do things as he sees fit, many are bullish on what Baltimore will look like going forward.
Everything thus far has been positive, but we are yet to see Monken's new offense in real NFL action. That comes in Week 1 against the Houston Texans, where we will hopefully see Jackson's "enthusiasm" result in an explosive offense that is ready to put the entire AFC on notice.
