Ravens QB Lamar Jackson Under 'Pressure' After Offseason Changes?

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson threw for 2,242 and 17 touchdowns last season. Can the sixth-year signal-caller regain his MVP form with a new offense?
In this story:

There are only three guarantees in life: death, taxes and change.

And Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson experienced two of those this offseason with a lucrative five-year $260 contract and new-look offense under Todd Monken.

Not only does Monken herald from University of Georgia where he helped win two national championships, but Baltimore also restructured its roster with an abundance of talent for its quarterback.

However, this change is what The Athletic believes could be the Ravens biggest concern this upcoming season.

"The Ravens likely will introduce two new starters on offense: first-round rookie Zay Flowers (at least as the No. 3 wide receiver) and a replacement for former starting left guard Ben Powers, who signed with Denver," The Athletic writes. "Because of their wide receiver upgrades with Odell Beckham Jr., Nelson Agholor and a healthier Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay is probably a backup now and can be used as a kickoff and punt returner."

Since taking home unanimous league MVP in 2019, Jackson has struggled to regain that form. Over the past two seasons, the 26-year-old has posted a 15-9 record, while tossing 33 touchdowns and racking up another five on the ground.

Comparatively, Jackson posted a 13-2 record with 36 passing touchdowns and seven rushing in his MVP campaign alone.

"Everyone is assuming, as a former league MVP, he will just immediately regain form," The Athletic writes. "Realistically, there will probably be a period of adjustment. If so, Baltimore has to hope it will be temporary. There is a lot of pressure on the quarterback after all the changes this offseason."

Luckily for Baltimore, it opens the 2023 year with one of the easier schedules in the league, allowing this offense to get its rust out of the way early.
