Ravens Best NFL Offseason With Lamar Jackson Signing?

CBS Sports compiled a list of the Top 10 best offseason moves in the NFL, and the Baltimore Ravens rank high.

The Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson contract standoff feels like many moons ago. There was a thought that Lamar could be headed elsewhere and just exactly what Baltimore would look like with him gone is something no Ravens fan wants to think about.

Thankfully, the two agreed to terms on a new deal that ties Jackson to Baltimore for the foreseeable future. It was seen as a big step in the right direction for the franchise and was a blockbuster signing.

But was it the best move of the offseason?

CBS Sports has compiled a list of the Top 10 best offseason moves in the NFL, with Jackson's re-signing coming in at No.2 with the signing of Aaron Rodgers for the New York Jets being ranked No.1.

"Had he and the Ravens not been able to come to terms on an extension, you would've had a Baltimore franchise in complete disarray and possibly even forced to trade its franchise quarterback, turning the league on its head," CBS Sports writes. "That would have likely sent Baltimore to the bottom of the barrel and brought one obscure team to relevancy overnight."

With no real plan B if Jackson did decide to leave aside from backup Tyler Huntley who showed flashes of his talents at quarterback, many wonder just what the Ravens would look like going forward.

Jackson signed on, and then even better news followed via free agency and the NFL Draft as the Ravens gave Lamar two legit weapons on offense in Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers.

The addition of Todd Monken also can't be overstated. After being a run-first team under Greg Roman, Monken feels like he will be taking the handbrake of Lamar's throwing capabilities and allowing him to let the football rip downfield.

All of which bodes well for the Ravens in the race not only for the AFC North but the AFC as a whole.

"The fact that Baltimore has this situation hammered out by not only agreeing to an extension with Jackson but reshaping the offense around him with new OC Todd Monken and new weapons like Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers, the Ravens have a clear-headed view for this season," CBS wrote. "With all this behind them, Jackson should be able to return to MVP form and have Baltimore in the thick of the AFC North race."

There doesn't seem to be anything holding back Baltimore now. After dark clouds hovered over the franchise for months due to Jackson's uncertain future to now fast-forwarding a few months and how clear the skies are ahead, maybe, just maybe this is the year that Jackson re-establishes himself as one of the NFL's elite.
