Ravens QB Lamar Jackson in Elite Tier of Adjusted Total QBR
The Baltimore Ravens are preparing for their first playoff matchup of the season when they host the Houston Texans on Saturday, but their quarterback is also in the running for a prestigious award as the campaign winds down.
Lamar Jackson is widely considered to be the MVP frontrunner in the National Football League this season, having piloted the Ravens to a No. 1 seed in the AFC while putting up some gaudy personal numbers in the process. One deciding factor in this race? Quarterback rating, and ESPN has a unique metric that helps analyze that number.
ESPN's Adjusted Total Quarterback Rating (QBR) “values the quarterback on all play types on a 0-100 scale adjusted for the strength of opposing defenses.” Jackson comes in fourth in the NFL in this ranking with a Total QBR of 64.7 in the 2023 season.
The three quarterbacks ahead of Jackson in this pecking order are the Bills' Josh Allen (69.3), Cowboys' Dak Prescott (72.4) and 49ers' Brock Purdy (72.7).
Of course, Jackson has the added benefit of elite talent around him on the roster as well, and that paired with his personal play has led the Ravens to a stellar regular season campaign.
Ravens vs. Texans Injury Update; Roster Moves
Now, however, Baltimore will begin its "second season" this week as it plays host to the dangerous Houston Texans in the Divisional Round of the AFC playoffs. Kickoff on Saturday between Houston and Baltimore is slated for 4:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on ESPN and ABC.
