Ravens Training Camp: RB Melvin Gordon Reveals Dobbins' Hold Out?

Freshly signed Baltimore Ravens running back Melvin Gordon confirmed to the media the reasoning for J.K. Dobbins' training camp hold-in.
In this story:

With the Baltimore Ravens nearing the end of their second week of training camp, the talk of the town so far has not been the new offense being implemented by coordinator Todd Monken. Instead, the conversation has centered around the hold-in of running back J.K. Dobbins.

Or, as the newly signed Ravens running back Melvin Gordon said, Dobbins is "sitting out" without much fanfare aside from a mainstream media perspective.

“I didn’t even know he’s sitting out, but J.K. is sitting out," Gordon said recently in an interview with The Baltimore Banner. "They’re not even making a big headline out of it unless you’re in Indy, I guess. And they got other players sitting out. I didn’t even know J.K. was sitting out until I came here.”

The former second-round pick is entering the final year of his career and doesn't seem content playing on a one-year deal. ... And judging by the degradation of the running back position in recent years, it is easy to see why, especially in Dobbins' case.

Injuries have been a major setback for the former Buckeye in his first four years. Following his rookie campaign, where he rushed for 805 yards and nine touchdowns on 134 carries in 15 games, Dobbins missed all of the following season due to a knee injury. That same knee also saw him play just eight games this past season.

With availability not being Dobbins' best ability so far, it is easy to see why it isn't worth the risk for him to participate early into camp without the security of a long-term deal. Yet, from the Ravens' perspective, Dobbins hasn't proven himself trustworthy from a health standpoint, making any financial commitment a risky one.
