Ravens NFL Mock Draft: Baltimore Bolsters Secondary, Drafts Elite CB Joey Porter Jr.
When the Baltimore Ravens are finally on the clock with the No. 22 pick in the NFL draft in just over a month, there are multiple directions in which they could choose to go.
A popular move in mock drafts has linked to them multiple receivers, citing the need to get quarterback Lamar Jackson help. Of course, there is no telling whether or not Jackson will even be a Raven once the season starts.
While the Ravens and Jackson continue to play contract chicken, however, draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah has the Ravens bolstering their secondary in his latest mock draft.
Rd. 1 No. 22 - Joey Porter Jr. - CB (Penn State)
How fun would this be? Joey Porter to the Ravens. That just sounds amazing. He would be a tremendous value at a position of need for Baltimore.
Porter's numbers might not jump off the page at first, with only one interception and 113 total tackles in four seasons at Penn State. However, he also recorded 20 passes defended - showcasing an ability to shut down opposing receivers.
The Ravens already boast one of the NFL's best defenses, especially against the pass, as they held opponents to 324.3 yards of total offense per game but only 232.2 yards through the air.
Drafting a new cornerback might not be a main priority for the Ravens, but adding Porter Jr. to a secondary already featuring safety Kyle Hamilton would add another shot of youth to the group - and make an elite defense that much better.
